The story unfolds against the serene backdrop of a river that separates two villages. The head of a family in one village falls ill and is treated by a Vaidya (a traditional healer) from the village on the opposite shore. As a fee, the Vaidya asks for the hand of the farmer's elder nephew in marriage for his eldest daughter. The farmer readily agrees, and thus, Omkar (Inder Thakur) is married to Roopa (Mitali).
