However, if you are attempting to use its native scanning platform— SmarThru 4 —on modern operating systems like Windows 10 or Windows 11 , you will likely run into compatibility issues. Because HP acquired Samsung's printer division, the official hosting of these legacy tools has migrated, and older versions of SmarThru 4 frequently crash or fail to recognize the scanner component over USB.
After install, via Windows Settings → Printers & Scanners → “The printer that I want isn’t listed” → use Samsung SCX-4521F Series from driver list.
If the page automatically detects your OS as Windows 10 or 11, it may show zero results for software. Click and select Windows 7 (64-bit or 32-bit) or Windows XP . Step 2: Extract the Installer Package
If the software opens but errors out with a "Scanner not found" or "Arguments are invalid" message, the system environment variables need a manual nudge.
