Yuhibbunahum Kahubbillah Wallazina Amanuu Ashaddu Hubban Lillah -al-baqarah 165- 2021 -

Just as a lover desires to speak to and hear from their beloved, the true believer finds comfort in the remembrance of Allah ( dhikr ), the night prayers ( Tahajjud ), and the recitation of the Quran.

The verse says ashaddu hubban — stronger. Stronger than what? The answer is implied: stronger than the disbelievers' love for their false gods, and stronger than any other love the believer themselves might have for anything else.

The verse shifts abruptly to draw a contrast. True believers are defined not just by their rituals, legal compliance, or intellectual assent to faith, but by the state of their hearts. Faith ( Iman ) is intrinsically tied to the emotion and action of love. Just as a lover desires to speak to

The Quran frequently emphasizes the concept of divine love, describing Allah's affection for His believers. This love is not limited to a simple emotional response but rather encompasses a profound and unshakeable bond between the Creator and His creation. The verse under consideration highlights the reciprocity of this love, where the believers' love for Allah is commensurate with Allah's love for them.

Allah does not leave us to guess how to love Him. He sent Muhammad ﷺ as the living embodiment of divine love. Allah says in Surah Aal-Imran (3:31): "Say, [O Muhammad], 'If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you.'" The litmus test of your love for Allah is your adherence to the Sunnah in small things (eating, sleeping, speaking) and big things (charity, justice, prayer). “Wa min al-nāsi man yattakhidhu min dūni llāhi andādan yuḥibbūnahum kaḥubbi llāh(i), wa alladhīna āmanū ashaddu ḥubban li llāh(i)…” (“And among the people are those who take partners besides Allah, loving them as Allah is loved. But those who believe are stronger in their love for Allah…”)
