Understanding why VCDS rejects a vehicle requires looking at both the hardware interface you are using and the year/model of the car you are plugging into. Using Outdated HEX-USB+CAN Interfaces on Newer Cars
VCDS works by connecting to the vehicle's OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics) port, which is a standardized port that provides access to the vehicle's onboard computer systems. Once connected, VCDS uses a proprietary protocol to communicate with the vehicle's systems, allowing users to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes, monitor live data, and perform various functions. vcds unsupported vehicle
Ross-Tech updates their software to detect cloned silicon. When detected, the software enters a "limp mode." It allows you to scan, but everything appears as "Unsupported" or "Unknown." It does this to frustrate the user into buying a real cable.
To fix the issue, you must understand the architecture of your specific car and match it to the correct Ross-Tech hardware. A "VCDS Unsupported Vehicle" message is not a reason to panic. In almost all scenarios, it means your software needs to be updated to match the latest vehicle data. By keeping your software current and using an authentic interface, you can ensure compatibility with the latest VAG vehicles.

If you are using an older, genuine Ross-Tech cable—such as the or KII-USB —it will not work on newer VAG vehicles.
The HEX-NET supports both USB and wireless (Wi-Fi) connections.
