In February 2025, Mexican regional singer Alicia Villarreal stepped onto a stage in Michoacán and performed an act of profound courage. During a live concert, she used the international “Signal for Help”—a hand gesture in which one places their thumb into their palm and closes their fingers over it—to alert the audience that she was in danger.
